I have spent almost two months without updating this blog, but this time has not been in vain. The last few weeks I have been reviewing a lot of material on sustainable development, a concept that is not neutral and produces reactions of all kinds. The most widely used definition states that sustainable development is development that meets present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. "(World Commission on Environment and Development, 1988) This attempts to reconcile three dimensions: economic, social and environmental to the concept of development based on economic growth, which is what would improve the human condition was added decades ago the "social question", the concern that this development can not be based on exploitation and social injustice. And the topic today is that we are aware of another problem: there are physical limits to development based on economic growth.
also installed an ethical conscience Intergenerational future generations should not bear the difficulties caused by indiscriminate consumption of natural resources, especially regarding extraction of nonrenewable natural resources and destruction of ecosystems.
This is the starting point for some reflections and discussions that I write this blog, and this advance it to get ideas and approaches that can be used to discuss sustainable development. For now, we can raise arguments about the ambiguity that represents sustainable development. We can also discuss what should be the adjective of development ("sustainable development, sustained, sustained?). And even more important: Should we remain committed to development based on economic growth? Reference
